Multi-year deal to impact local economy
Approximately 10,000 players, coaches and family members will travel to the South Shore to participate in the 2012 National Softball Association Girls Fast Pitch “B” World Series hosted by South Shore Sports Promotions. The tournament will take place the week of July 19th –July 26th, with the games being held throughout Northwest Indiana.
Not only has the South Shore Sports Promotions department secured the event for 2012, but they have also locked in the 2014 tournament as well.
The NSA event is significant to local economic development. Special events for the tournament will showcase area attractions and once again greatly impact local businesses.
Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties all benefitted from the 2009 tournament events. Opening festivities for the 2009 event began at The Steel Yard. The official Opening Ceremony Block Party took place around the square in downtown Crown Point. The ceremony was highlighted by a parade, food vendors and musical entertainment with fireworks at the conclusion. More than 8,000 people attended this block party. Washington Park in Michigan City hosted the 2009 Pin Swap Party. Here participants had the opportunity to exchange their team pins and interact with other players, coaches and parents.
“The tournament’s opening ceremonies held in Crown Point’s downtown area allowed local restaurants to have more business on a Monday night than every Friday night during the month of July,” David Uran, Crown Point Mayor said. “Talk about a great way to impact the local economy.”
