What do a disproportionate number of CEOs have in common? They played sports when they were younger. Sports keep you physically and mentally healthy, teach you important relationship skills and forge determination. These benefits often spill over into the business world.
The Cubs started off their season of “Reckoning,” as Theo Epstein dubbed it, with just short of the worst position possible. Absolutely dismal showings from the starting pitchers and bullpen led to the team owning the worst ERA in baseball, and forced them to drop down to a 2-7 record. Three of the cub’s offensive stars looked lost at the plate. Really, the only bright side was the incredible display the bottom half of the lineup demonstrated.
The Indians and the Vikings duked it out once again on Portage’s softball diamond Wednesday night. The game did not disappoint, including late game rallies by both sides. The score was 7-5 going into the last inning before the Vikings put up six additional runs, making the score 13-5 going into the bottom of the 7th. Portage’s response was putting up five runs in a late rally. Both teams played with determination as the game was on the line and abilities were tested.
The Valparaiso University women’s basketball program has announced its 2019 summer camp dates and details.
“Shhh, It’s A Surprise!” read a secret email sent to students, colleagues, and friends of Professor Leonard “Lenny” Corso.
On Friday night, Corso, Anatomy and Physiology Professor at Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso, thought he was invited to a panel discussing health occupations with students and parents. In reality, a group of senior nursing students collaborated to honor this special professor.
It will be a special week for Valparaiso Athletics as the University will host its first Missouri Valley Conference Championship event in any sport as The Valley’s 10 women’s golf teams compete for an automatic NCAA Regional berth.
The Cubs’ 2018 Season ended rather traumatically. There were massive roadblocks throughout the year, like Kris Bryant’s injured shoulder, Yu Darvish making his Cubs’ debut with an injured elbow that limited him to eight starts, and an offense that, in the words of Cubs’ President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein, was simply “broken.”
- Hammond to host live NFL 2019 Draft pick
- Event to be open to the public at Hammond Sportsplex April 27th
When the Hammond Pros took the field as one of the original NFL Teams, not many people knew what the NFL would become over the next 100 years. Now, nearly 100 years after the National Football League was born in Canton, Ohio, the NFL is celebrating the 13 communities, including Hammond, that were home to the teams in its inaugural season. The initiative is part of ‘NFL100,’ a year-long commemoration of its centennial season bringing together generations of football fans, players, communities and all 32 clubs for a unique line-up of programming and activities.
The wait is over and let the madness begin! After the March 17 Sunday Selection, the 68 teams for the 2019 NCAA Tournament are set.
