The Family & Youth Services Bureau presents a Family Life Series Workshop, titled “Understanding ADHD: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder,” held on Tuesday, November 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, at the FYSB downtown Valparaiso office at 253 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso.
Topics presented will be how to identify the different types of ADHD and related features; understanding the impact of ADHD in various areas of life including social, academic, and occupational functioning; identifying core ADHD symptoms in children, adolescents, and adults, and the occurrence of symptoms in different settings; understanding the brain-based components of ADHD; identifying useful coping strategies to minimize the impact of ADHD symptoms; and exploring effective treatment options.
The workshop is led by Chris Georgeff, an industrial psychologist who works with individuals with various disabilities in rehabilitative and educational settings. Chris has been providing behavioral consultation services for children receiving special education services, many being diagnosed with ADHD, for the past twelve years. He is an instructor at Purdue University Calumet and has been teaching Behavioral Sciences courses both at the undergraduate and graduate level for the past fifteen years. Additionally, Chris has dedicated a large part of his career to serving disabled veterans by providing supportive vocational rehabilitation services for veterans with a variety of psychological and physical disabilities.
