Compost and Mulch Now Available

Valparaiso-Vibrant-VisionaryValparaiso’s mulch and composting site has opened for the season, offering residents and businesses a low-cost source for products made from leaves, brush, and logs collected from Porter County residents, in conjunction with Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District. Diverting these materials saves landfill costs, as it provides valuable landscape material to residents.

There are 3 options for obtaining compost and mulch:

  • Residents may self-load the material for free at the Valparaiso Compost Site, 2150 West Lincolnway, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Please bring your own shovels and containers for self loading.
  • Loading is available for residents at $10 per cubic yard (residences) and $15 per cubic yard (businesses) for compost. There is no charge to load mulch. Loading is available at the Valparaiso Compost Site, 2150 West Lincolnway Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Payment may be made at either the Compost Site or at the Public Works facility, 1855 Joliet Road (open 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday). Payment with check or money order only.
  • Delivery is provided by Valparaiso Public Works to Valparaiso residents inside the city’s trash service area only. The price for delivered mulch or compost is $15 per cubic yard to homes and non-profits, and $20 per cubic yard to businesses. Minimum for delivery is two yards and must be arranged in person at the Public Works office during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Payment with check or money order only.
