Gleason lot is off-limits, and IU police will not provide rides to Grant Street parking lot for those who miss the campus shuttle 
Fall classes begin Monday, Aug. 30, and the Indiana University Northwest Police Department is urging students to familiarize themselves with campus parking restrictions and traffic safety measures. Students who park illegally or in restricted areas will have their cars ticketed and/or towed, at their own expense.
Also, the IU Northwest Police Department (IUNPD) has stated that it WILL NOT provide off-campus police escorts to students who park at the Park and Ride lot at Grant Street and 37th Avenue, and who miss the final RedHawk Shuttle that departs campus each day at 5:50 p.m. Students, faculty or staff who miss the last shuttle are responsible for arranging their own transportation back to the Park and Ride lot.
Everyone is strongly encouraged to become familiar with the shuttle schedule and to plan accordingly. Students who have late afternoon or evening classes are advised to catch an earlier shuttle back to their vehicles and then find on-campus parking once spaces become available after 2:30 p.m.
With record enrollment likely this fall, IU Northwest campus parking lots are expected to reach maximum capacity on most days between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are advised to utilize the Park and Ride lot that is located at the university’s new “Arts on Grant” location at Grant Street and 37th Avenue in the Village Shopping Center.
Individuals using the Park & Ride lot can ride the free (with university I.D.) RedHawk Shuttle to and from campus. Shuttle departures and arrivals will occur every 10 to 14 minutes with two campus stops: the Moraine Student Center, located just south of the main campus parking lot, adjacent to the Savannah Center, and the south entrance of the Library Conference Center, located on 35th Avenue. Signage indicates the designated drop-off points.
The RedHawk Shuttle will run 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, during the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. The last shuttle departs campus at approximately 5:50 p.m. All riders are REQUIRED to present a university ID to board the shuttle. There will be on-site security at the Park and Ride lot during its hours of operation, and the campus police will patrol the lot as part of their regular rounds.

Parking
IU Northwest has added approximately 75 parking spaces to its campus capacity. Many of those additional spots are located in the lots east of Broadway. Additional handicapped parking has been added near the Moraine Student Center for those with disabilities.
All vehicles parked on IU Northwest property must properly display an IU Northwest parking permit. Individuals requesting a handicapped permit should contact Parking Services. All individuals parking in handicapped spaces must display an IU Northwest handicapped permit, even if they already have other handicapped parking tags on their vehicle.
The IUNPD encourages all students, faculty and staff to park in approved campus locations, and to avoid parking in residential areas. Violators will be ticketed.
The campus community is also reminded that Gleason Golf Course is not affiliated with the university, and its parking spaces are NOT available to the campus community. Those who park in the Gleason lot will be towed at their own expense.
Also, students are advised not to park in the grassy areas along Massachusetts Street between 33rd and 34th Avenues. The Gary Police Department has indicated that it will ticket violators who park in this no-parking zone.
Students, faculty and staff who cannot find parking in approved campus locations are urged to use the Park and Ride lot and RedHawk Shuttle, which is free with university ID. Also, students and employees who do park in campus lots are reminded that vehicles without current parking tags will be ticketed by the IUNPD.
Broadway Crossing
Those who park east of Broadway will notice that the Indiana Department of Transportation has painted a new median on the highway. This median clearly indicates where pedestrians should and should not attempt to cross Broadway. New LED pedestrian caution lights are also being installed.
To ensure safety, it is imperative that all members of the campus community use EXTREME CAUTION and follow the proper signals and crosswalks when crossing Broadway. Pedestrians should not attempt to cross outside the clearly marked pedestrian walkways, and must obey all signals and watch carefully for traffic.
Similarly, campus motorists must be aware of the pedestrian crossing areas, obey all speed limits, and watch carefully for students, faculty or staff crossing the road, particularly at night or in inclement weather.
It is the responsibility of everyone on campus to promote traffic safety at IU Northwest. The IUNPD and the university appreciate the patience and cooperation of the campus community as they work to meet the parking needs of all students, faculty and staff during this new semester.
