Volunteers Help Make Porter County Fair Succeed

Volunteers at the Porter County Fair dedicate their time and energy to making sure fairgoers have the best time of their lives. Even without payment, they make sure everything runs smoothly.

“I love the fair; I wouldn’t be involved or volunteering with this group if I didn’t believe in what the mission statement is and what we do for 4-H, agriculture and providing great family entertainment for the community,” Free Grounds Entertainment Manager and Fair Board Director Lori Neumeier said.

Neumeier hires all the family friendly entertainment that is found all around the fair.

Whether it is helping run events or taking care of the animal life, those who assist the fair ask for nothing in return. The grandstand crew consists of 40 to 50 individuals who set up the stage, chairs and barriers that surround the large area.

“So much work goes into set up including setting up the stage, lighting, audio and video,” Wes Rutland, who was in charge of lighting, said.

When asked how the fair has done so far this summer, David Bagnall, the Grandstand Superintendant, replied, “The fair has done very well this year. We have had perfect weather and great attendance.”

By having an entrance fee of only $5, the public is amazed with how many free attractions are offered. Ultimately, everyone gets affordable, great quality entertainment.

If you see any volunteer or board member at the fair, please remember to say a quick thank you. All of their hard work is dedicated to making our lives fun and safe. The Porter County Fair is a gateway to endless enjoyment. Make sure to experience all of it before it is too late!
