Porter County Community Foundation Receives Donation From Aperion Care for Scholarships

Aperion-Scholarship-Check-2016Aperion Care of Valparaiso made a donation to the Porter County Community Foundation in memory of Mary E. Bartz. Mary served as president of the Porter County Council of Church Women that established Whispering Pines Health Care Center.

Recently, Aperion Care added the Whispering Pines Health Care Center of Valparaiso to their family of skilled nursing facilities. "As we all know, stand-alone health care entities have had a difficult time enduring in the current economic environment,” said Jim Spanopoulos, Director of Business Development at Fagen Pharmacy. “Luckily for Whispering Pines, Aperion stepped in to help us. Not only did Aperion add our facility to their family of skilled nursing facilities, they’ve also created a $500,000 scholarship through the Porter County Community Foundation to assist Porter County residents in obtaining nursing degrees. ”

“Jim’s presidency of the Whispering Pines Board of Directors put him in the unique position of being able to facilitate the creation of this scholarship fund,” said Bill Higbie, President and CEO of the Porter County Community Foundation. “It preserves the legacy of the Bartz Family by establishing a permanent scholarship fund to help area residents further their education in the healthcare field.”
