It was a sensory feasts with music, food, family and friends. Pretty decorations in red, white, and pink adorned the walls, ceilings, tables, and even people in attendance. A DJ was set up, playing tunes from classic crooners and contemporary artists that kept people on the dance floor moving on those at the surrounding tables singing and toe-tapping. The Banta Senior Dancers cut a rug at the dance, showing off their moves to the residents and even bringing some residents out onto the dance floor for a spin.

Helen Miller, a resident at Rittenhouse of Valpo said, "This is a wonderful party provided by a wonderful place to live."

Desserts were at the ready for those in the mood for something decadent and delicious. Chocolate covered strawberries, mini cupcakes, cake balls, and other treats sat artfully displayed for the guests dining pleasure. Everyone happily sampled the goods and chatted amiably, their voices mingling with the music.

Staff and residents of Rittenhouse of Valpo had a fantastic time. They love doing events like this because it gets the community involved with the goings-on of the facility, and it allows for the residents to enjoy a lovely themselves in the comfort of their home.

“Events like the Valentine’s Dance are great ways to celebrate our residents as well as encourage the public to see all that Rittenhouse has to offer,” Natalie Reisen, Marketing Director at Rittenhouse Senior Living of Valparaiso said. “Hosting events and various fundraisers for the community is something we like to offer regularly. Our residents always have a great time and so do others that attend from the public.”

Activities like this dance are commonplace at Rittenhouse. It is a firm belief that stimulating activities are important in all stages of lives so there is always something to do at Rittenhouse. Shiela Chelf, an Activity Assistant at Rittenhouse of Valpo, was there dancing with her mother who is a resident at the facility. She loved to see all of the people - guests, staff, and residents - having a good time.

"This is fun and entertaining and the residents are stimulated by it," Chelf said. "Some of the residents are dealing with Alzhiemer's and dementia. Music is never forgotten by dementia and Alzheimer's patients and it's wonderful to see them come alive when they hear it."
