Northwest Health – Porter Makes Donation to the Porter County Emergency Management Agency to Honor its Medical Staff

On April 25, 2024, Northwest Health – Porter celebrated National Doctors’ Day by making a $6,000 donation to the Porter County Emergency Management Agency in honor of its medical staff. This donation is in support of upcoming upgrades to the radio systems at the Porter County Central Dispatch Center (911). The funds will be allocated to volunteer fire departments in the area to assist in covering the cost for reprogramming up to 120 existing portable emergency radios.

“We are immensely grateful for the dedication demonstrated by our medical staff each and every day. They do so much for the community and mean a tremendous amount to our organization” said Dr. James Leonard, Chief Executive Officer for Northwest Health – Porter. “This year we are delighted to make this donation in their honor to benefit Porter County emergency responders, and specifically their central communications operations. We trust our donation will further their initiatives in enhancing emergency preparedness and response capabilities throughout our community.”

Aric Homberg, the Director for Northwest Health EMS who identified the opportunity for the donation, shared how the medical staff’s generosity will make a true impact throughout Porter County. “Porter County agencies and Northwest Health are both committed to continuously improving the health, wellbeing, and safety of our local communities. This project paves the way for improved station alerting, communication and response during critical incidents,” said Homberg.

“We are honored to receive this generous donation from Northwest Health – Porter,” said Lance Bella, Director for the Porter County Emergency Management Agency. “This contribution will enable us to strengthen the county’s emergency response capabilities and better serve the residents of Porter County. We extend our appreciation to Northwest Health – Porter and its exceptional medical staff for their continued support.”

The Executive Director for the Porter County Central Communications, Debby Gunn, added, “Northwest Health – Porter’s donation is a tangible demonstration of their dedication and commitment to the citizens and first responders of Porter County. This project significantly enhances the 911 center’s role from a customer service, call taking perspective.  Radio reprogramming is an essential element to this change.”
