BFMS 8th Grade Boys Basketball Recap: vs. Portage Fegely

There is something about certain gyms that always plague the Vikings, and Fegley’s arena is one of those. Both teams did not play their best, yet still managed to come away with wins. In the 8th grade “A” game, the Vikes battled a pesky Warrior team for a 41 to 30 win that was closer than the final score.

Leading the scoring, Justin Osburn nailed down 9 points, followed by Christian Rouse and Alex Healy, who each tallied 8. Under the boards, Justin tied Trent Fortson and Triston Rouse for rebounding honors, while Trent topped the assist chart with 5 assists, followed by Brendan Sutherland’s 4. And tying for steal honors, Justin, Alex, and Bret Boetel each picked off a pair.

In the 8th grade “B” game, it seemed the second squad was determined to give up its undefeated status as it struggled all night, but the team hung on for a 28 to 25 victory. Leading the scoring, Neil Whitfield tossed in 9, while Serph Decker added 5, and Jake Catarello fired in 4. Jake also topped the rebounders with 5, while Kevin Hickey led the team in assists.

Defensively, the Vikes were led by Ari Coulopoulos and Jacob Bekelya, who each picked off 3 steals. The 8th graders end their regular season tomorrow at home against LaPorte Boston.
